Essential Skills for Creating Peaceful Environments
Peace Factors is a program developed for educators, youth groups and parents. It is dedicated to creating and strengthening relationships by increased awareness of how our thoughts determine the words we say and the way we choose to act.
Teaching children the power of their thoughts and how that impacts their words and actions is an essential life skill that will have long term positive impact on the child’s academic, social and emotional success. The youth program provides tools to help manage the big emotions and make good decisions to do the right thing, even in times of extreme anger and frustration. Exercises and discussion help them to better understand their personal triggers and build compassion capabilities for others. We focus on the positive and the concept of we instead of me to build a strong community and promote a healthier way of thinking.
Understand and Manage Emotions
Research shows that there is a need to work with children at a young age to help them build trust-based relationships and better understand and manage their emotions. These life skills reduce the chance of adolescent aggressiveness, drug abuse and alcohol problems.
“I recently had the opportunity of working with Kathy and Beverly, as they provided two staff development workshops for us. From the early planning stages through completion of the workshops, I found them to be knowledgeable, professional, enthusiastic, detail-oriented and organized. The workshops were effectively customized to fit the unique needs of each audience. Content of presentations reflected their depth of knowledge about healthy communication and significance of community-building both personally and professionally. They provided several practical applications for the concepts they presented, as well as numerous ways staff could continue the important work of building healthy relationships with coworkers and families throughout the year. Participants were engaged, energized and enthusiastic about starting a new school year!”
